What to expect from your experience with Buckingham United Soccer Club:
Buckingham United is a "player development" focused organization. This means that the goal of our coaches and trainers is to help develop each player to the best of his or her ability. While the team's performance will grow in importance over time, we will never lose focus on our primary objective: to help your son or daughter become the best soccer player that he or she can be.
Our commitment to our players:
- Each player on our Under-9 through Under-12 teams will be given equal playing time during games and tournaments. As players mature and teams become more competitive, playing time will be based upon effort and ability, but each player will be given the chance to participate in every game.
- Our coaches and trainers will provide a fun and safe learning environment in which each player will be given an equal chance to develop and excel at the game of soccer.
- Our players will be treated fairly and objectively and with respect.
- Our training sessions will be well organized and will have clear learning objectives.
- Our coaches and trainers will honor the game by exemplifying good sportsmanship, treating all opponents with honor, and allowing referees to call the game as they see it.
- Our coaches and trainers will continue to be "students of the game," so that they continue to refine their understanding and approach to helping our players develop.
The commitments required from our players:
- Each player is expected to participate in two weekly training sessions during the season.
- Each player is expected to come to the training sessions with a desire to improve his or her understanding of the game and technical ability.
- Each player is expected to attend each game. Our teams generally participate in 10 league games in the fall season and the spring season and participate in 5-8 weekend-long tournaments each year.
- Each player is expected to honor the game by showing good sportsmanship, obeying the laws of the game, treating all opponents with honor, winning with style and losing with grace.
- Travel Soccer is a two-season sport. Players are expected to participate in our fall and spring seasons. Teams will also provide training opportunities in the winter, and players are encouraged, but not required, to participate in these training sessions and indoor games.
- Our players are expected to represent our club to the best of their ability both on the field and off the field.
The commitments required from our parents:
- Parents are expected to honor the game by providing only positive feedback to each player, letting the coaches coach and respecting the referees' decisions.
- Parents are expected to bring their child to practices and games on time and ready to participate.
- Parents are expected to respect our coaches, trainers and game officials. Parents should refrain from criticizing the coaching staff to their children and other parents. In the event that a parent disagrees with a coach, the parent should raise the issue with the coach directly.
- Parents are expected to volunteer their time to help create a positive environment for all team and club members. There are many opportunities to volunteer such as field scheduling, team management, tournament support and administrative roles within the club.
- Parents are expected to help their children keep clear sight of their priorities. Schoolwork, family obligations, and other aspects of life are more important than soccer.
- Parents should encourage their children to talk to their coaches directly and take responsibility by discussing any challenges that he or she is having with soccer and/or any issues that he or she is having meeting commitments to the team. This helps the children development self confidence and good communication skills. The club will work with the coaches to ensure these conversations are handled in a comfortable and age appropriate manner.
