Fourteen Cheetahs ran from ages 6 to 12 in the prestigious Jr. Carlsbad competition on Saturday, 10, 2010 in Carlsbad California. Nine of the fourteen Cheetahs finished in the top 10 runners with about 150 runners in their race.
Seven year old Vianca Landeros WON her 7 year old division in a mile time of 6:49. That time was the fastest Jr. Carlsbad mile for a 7 year old girl in the past 10 years.
Eight year old Denie Stark also WON her 8 year old division in a mile time of 6:28, an improvement of 32 seconds over her Jr. Carlsbad race last year in which she finished 2nd in the 7 year old division.
Eleven year old Alexis Newberry finished 3rd in her division in a time of 6:22.
First three finishers were honored with plaques and stood on the podium.

The Cheetahs had a great showing of runners at this weekend's AAU Jr. Olympic Qualifying Meet at San Ysidro High School over Father's Day weekend. All Cheetahs ran well, with 14 athletes advancing to compete in Des Moines, Iowa. Congratulations to all who competed for a job well done! Happy Father's Day!
The Southern California Cheetahs are a year round youth running club. We compete in US Track and Field sanctioned meets, AAU track meets, and college and community all comer meets. There are two seasons we focus on during the year. From January through June we focus is Track and Field season, and from July through December is cross country season. We encourage athletes to join at any point during the year. In addition to training to compete, we also offer general conditioning which we can taylor make for each individual, and support cross training for other sports involvement.
Our fees are divided between the two seasons, and include running fees for USATF sanctioned meets. We can provide payment terms and taylor make a plan that fits your training program.
We train at the world famous Mt. San Antonio College track and cross country courses. Our training is currently scheduled Monday, Tuesday and Thursday starting at 4:00 pm. We meet at the practice field, then move up to the track. Depending on the workout, the training can be 1-1/2 to 2 hours in length. When daylight savings time starts, we will change our start time to 5:00 pm.
We send out weekly notices confirming practices, and meets we will be participating in the following week. To get more information, please come out to our practice, meet our coach and our athletes. We encourage you to have your athlete train for a week before making a decision to commit to our program.
